Libras é Legal Kit

THE LIBRAS É LEGAL KIT is composed of the following materials: the teacher's manual, a videotape, five books of children's stories, two teaching games and a mini-dictionary.
From these materials, the books of children's stories and mini-dictionary are edited in three languages: the "spoken" Libras, illustrated by deaf designers, developers of the project; the Sign Writing (writing of sign language) and written Portuguese.
Thus, we intend to expand and diversify the possibilities of visual and symbolic communication in the classroom between teacher and students.
Educational Games are illustrated and show the Libras. The video is presented in Libras, with subtitles in Portuguese. We show details of each material below.

VÍDEO: "The History of the Deaf and the Libras"

This video aims to present a brief history of the deaf community and the development of the use of libras, from the point of view of deaf people.
Many materials are produced for the deaf, without the participation of the deaf community.
The simple and objective language which this story is told allows the video being also used with deaf children who need to know more about their history in order to strengthen their bonds of identity with the deaf community.
The video can be used in events (lectures, courses, seminars) involving parents, teachers and professionals. Besides being a great resource to initiate discussions in class that may precede many activities in the classroom, in the different disciplines.

Besides the obvious function of entertainment, leisure and fun that reading books of history offers students, the copies of LIBRAS É LEGAL KIT have a differential. The five children's books that the kit contains, perform a didactic, information and records function of some narratives present in deaf communities that have been reported from generation to generation by the deaf. All books are illustrated, show the signs of libras in pictures, writing of sign language and written Portuguese.
As the materials are very scarce in libras, the teacher can also use the booklets in the activities of reading and writing developed in the classroom with their deaf students. It is a way to demonstrate that even in different ways, languages are also important in communication.

"LIVE THE DIFFERENCES" is a book that talks, in simple form, about the diversity of human beings. The discussion of the differences in the classroom is an opportunity to sow values such as respect and solidarity among children, which is essential for their coexistence in a group.

"GOLDEN CURLS" is a classic of children's literature as part of the universe of many listeners children. Now the deaf children can learn these stories told by their parents and teachers through the record in Libras.

"IVO" is an opportunity to work some notions of citizenship with students as the personal documents are a way of inserting in the present society and being part of it. The story offers children many opportunities to work several concepts related to it, such as family, health, work, education, politics and more.

"HISTORY OF THE TREE" is a well known joke in the deaf community, which has been counted and recounts. With humor it brings a very interesting message of respect to individual differences.

"ADAM AND EVE" is also a narrative that makes up the universe of reports of the deaf community. It is a beautiful text that shows the version of the deaf about the origin of human language. So poetic, they show that the original manner in which men communicate would be sign language, if not the original sin committed by Adam and Eve in Paradise. Thus they demand the recognition of the value and importance of sign language by the society.

The games offered are intended to expand the vocabulary of deaf children, because the activities involve language, but also give emphasis to the hand configuration used in the implementation of signs. It is a fun way to fix this important issue of Libras.

Material: board of the cat, colored buttons and a dice.
Goals: setting the hand configurations and the manual alphabet, association of alphabet letters and manual alphabet, formation of words.
Game: The player chooses a colored button that represents your flea. Place the fleas in the "Output" and draw who starts the game. Each player in turn, throws the dice and go leaping, looking for the letters corresponding to the sequence of the manual alphabet. Example: dice 4 - a, b, c, d. The winner is the flea which gets to the square "The end".
Variation: Before you start the game, a picture is chosen and together each player write his name in a visible place. Each player rolls the dice and go leaping, looking for the letters of the word sequence of the figure shown. If the number of letters of the word is less than the number of the dice, the player must continue jumping, and so can not complete the task. Thus the player, to complete the task given, need to get right the number of letters he needs to complete the word. The winner is the owner of the flea who first complete the word.
Note: The teacher can adapt the choice of words to the needs of your group of students, ranging themes to be explored.

Materials: board with the categories, roulette of hand configurations, colorful buttons and a dice.
Goals: Expansion of vocabulary and setting the hand configurations of Libras.
Game: Each player places his colored piece in the "Output" and draw lots who starts. Each player in turn, throws the dice and go leaping boxes in the correct sequence of the number drawn. When stop at a square, turns the roulette and makes a sign of Libras with the selected hand configuration (HC) referent to the issue of the square you stopped (zoo, food, home, family, etc.).. If you get right, you can continue playing the next round when it's your turn. If you miss you have to stay in the square one round. Next time, spins the roulette again to change the hand configuration. The winner is the one who arrives first at the end. Ex CM [c] sign: apple, cup, brother-in-law, etc..

While recognizing the existence of a number of dictionaries of Libras, produced in different shapes and materials, this mini-dictionary brings the proposal to present Libras in a different way.
Our intention was to build a "set" and from it, make the signs in a contextualized way.
The issues involve the basic vocabulary of Libras in each scene and the signs are recorded in Libras (picture) and written sign language, with the relevant changes from each of the South States of Brazil. Even as a dictionary, it offers many possibilities for use by the teacher. The fact that the signs are always in a context, allows to work with text production with students, forming phrases and expressions, performing dialogues, making reports, descriptions and so on.

Enjoy it!

We hope that the LIBRAS É LEGAL KIT reaches the objectives as proposed in the schools and in the community. The material was designed and produced always thought to represent a contribution to parents, teachers and entire range of educators and other interested people, but especially to children, to the deaf students. We would love that they understood that the material was done to them, that it reflects their reality and their specific language needs.
It is very important to us to know whether our objectives have been achieved. So we are proposing that you, teacher and educator, send us your opinion on the material, your impressions, suggestions, your assessment.

We count on your cooperation!

Finally, we register our best thanks, on behalf of the Deaf and the Community of Educators involved with the issue of deafness, to Petrobras, the sponsor of the project LIBRAS É LEGAL.
